Tamarack's Closure Impacts Community
I have had many calls these past few weeks with questions regarding the impact the closure of Tamarack Resort in Donnelly Idaho has had on the community and specifically the impact on real estate in the area, so I thought it may be worth writing about this week.
On March 4, 2009, Tamarack Resort closed several weeks earlier than scheduled and even before the ski season was completed. It had left over 200 people unemployed and 250 homeowners in the resort without many of their local amenities (including a grocery store, exercise facility, restaurant and spa).
It has impacted local businesses in the area from the construction to the ski shops and with many people leaving the area, it has even been felt in the local schools.
However, as many may think, it has not brought things to a screeching halt. Many skiers and visitors to the area have had to switch their focus on McCall as their destination. Since the closure on March 4, there have been over 25 properties closed according to Mountain Central MLS data and of which, 5 are in Tamarack, Donnelly or Cascade area.
This area has still not lost its appeal for its mountain beauty, small town atmosphere and endless recreation. Some day Tamarack Resort in Donnelly Idaho will reopen but until then, don't forget that this is still one of the West's best kept secret.
